I work on a monthly retainer rather than a per-session fee. This monthly retainer covers our coaching sessions, plus the time I’ll spend on prep, follow-ups and any between-session support you need.

My monthly retainer for 1-on-1 coaching is $3,500 per month for bi-weekly sessions (2 per month), or $5,000 per month for weekly sessions (4 per month).

For people who are paying out of pocket or whose company cannot afford this rate, I also offer a limited number of coaching slots on a sliding scale. I typically support sliding scale clients with bi-weekly sessions, and there is currently a short (3 to 6 month) wait list.

Suggested Rate

My suggested rate for sliding scale clients is based on two key dimensions:

  1. What you are paid for a day of work - this offers a simple heuristic that indicates your level of access to financial resources and the complexity of your work.
  2. Who is paying for coaching - you, someone else (e.g. the company you work for), or a hybrid.

Here’s what I suggest:

"*Monthly Retainer" = "Day Rate" ((x2 if your company is paying))*

For example:

| Compensation | Day Rate | Who’s paying? | Suggested Monthly Retainer | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | $250k/yr | $1,087/day (assumes 230 working days/yr) | Company (x2) | $2,174/mo | | $200/hr | $1,600/day (assumes day rate = 8hrs) | Individual (x1) | $1,600/mo |

You Decide

There are many scenarios this pricing model doesn’t cover (e.g. you’re starting something new and not taking a salary), so please consider this a starting suggestion.

Ultimately, if we work together, you get to decide what you’ll pay.

I believe you should settle on a number that feels like you’re making a significant investment in yourself, but not so much that it creates stress and resentment in other areas of your life.
