I work on a monthly retainer rather than a per-session fee. This monthly retainer covers our coaching sessions, plus the time I’ll spend on prep, follow-ups and any between-session support you need.
My monthly retainer for 1-on-1 coaching is $3,500 per month for bi-weekly sessions (2 per month), or $5,000 per month for weekly sessions (4 per month).
For people who are paying out of pocket or whose company cannot afford this rate, I also offer a limited number of coaching slots on a sliding scale. I typically support sliding scale clients with bi-weekly sessions for 6 months, at which point we step back to re-evaluate the coaching container and mutually decide what makes sense moving forward.
There is currently a short (1 to 4 month) wait list for my sliding scale slots.
My suggested rate for sliding scale clients is based on two key dimensions:
Here’s what I suggest:
"*Monthly Retainer" = "Day Rate" ((x2 if your company is paying))*
For example:
| Compensation | Day Rate | Who’s paying? | Suggested Monthly Retainer | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | $250k/yr annual salary | $1,087/day (assumes 230 working days/yr) | Company (x2) | $2,174/mo | | $200/hr contract rate | $1,600/day (assumes day rate = 8hrs) | Individual (x1) | $1,600/mo |
If you’re a growing startup, I’m also open to discussing if there’s a mix of cash and equity that makes sense.
If you’re a coach, I ask that you consider offering ≥ your average client rate.
There are many scenarios this pricing model doesn’t cover (e.g. you’re starting something new and not taking a salary, or you coach/consult/advise and your day rate isn’t an appropriate benchmark), so please consider this a starting suggestion.
